Commonly known as Guinea-Conarky to not be confused with Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conarky refers to its largest city and the country's capital. Conarky is a port city located on the Atlantic Ocean and is the administrative, cultural, financial and economic center of the country.
Despite its social and financial situation, Guinea-Conarky loves football. Their national football team is called Syli Nationale which literally means National Elephant. Internationally, they have not faired too well not being able to qualify for the World Cup finals with their best performance in the tournament being at the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations where they finished in second place which was held in Morocco and they are expected to host it in 2023. They did however reached the quarter-finals in 2004, 2006 and 2008. The national football team did take the Amilcar Cabral Cup in 2005 for the fifth time (1981, 1982, 1987, 1988 and 2005) in history.Regardless of their relatively poor international performance, football is enjoys a somewhat of a religious status. Kids will often take a net out and block the whole street, stopping the traffic, to play.
